Caio, Brazil, 16 years old, Year


Caio is a cheerful student with a large group of friends from the different activities he is involved in, including school, church, tennis and his language school.  Caio can be a bit shy at first but is a funny and outgoing student. He loves to play tennis and hopes to join a team while in New Zealand.

Capucine, France, 16 years old, Year

Capucine is an accomplished horse rider, specialising in endurance racing and has completed in a number of French Junior Championships.  However, she is keen to discover new hobbies and try new sports while she is in New Zealand. Capucine also practices French boxing once a week and likes to stay active.  Her friends describe her as a happy, funny and curious student.

Celia, France, 16 years old, Semester 


Celia is an open minded, reliable, and sometimes shy student.  She is an only child but has great relationships with her cousins.  Celia lives near the beach so enjoys spending time there with her friends as well as reading and listening to music.  Celia also practices dance once a week. Her favourite subjects at school are English and French and has won a number of trophies in these areas.

Elena, USA, 16 years old, Semester

Elena is a social student who likes to bring out the best in people.  Her family often help out at the soup kitchen and are involved in many other community service projects.  Elena plays softball and volleyball and skis with her family during winter. Her other hobbies include singing, painting and drawing.  Elena is looking forward to trying new activities, meeting new people and learning more about the Maori culture while she is in New Zealand.  Elena is unable to live with cats.

Gwendal, France, 15 years old, Semester


Gwendal likes taking part in sports.  He does BMX and badminton for a couple of hours each week as well as a crossfit class.  When he isn’t doing sport, Gwendal enjoys riding his bike and scooter whilst hanging out with his friends.  Gwendal also likes to get in the kitchen and cook. He likes to discover new recipes and ideas. Why not host Gwendal and try some of his cooking!

Hannah, Germany, 16 years old, Year


Meet Hannah, a student from Southern Germany.  Hannah is a calm and sometimes reserved student who is keen to explore New Zealand’s culture and improve her English.  She likes playing volleyball, going hiking, and walking their family dog. She also plays the saxophone and clarinet. Hannah’s favourite subjects are maths, english, geography and chemistry.

Lenora, USA, 16 years old, Year

Lenora is an athletic student who feels best when she is outdoors.  Her main sporting interest at the moment is cross country running but she also likes soccer, swimming and skiing.  Her family has been involved with AFS for many years with her mum being a returnee and her grandparents having hosted many students over the years.  Lenora’s favourite subject is maths and she hopes to study sports medicine in the future.

Leonardo, Brazil, 16 years old, Year


Meet Leonardo, a 16 year old student from Brazil.  He has a passion for being around the water and his favourite sports are sailing, wakeboarding,  surfing, free diving and body boarding. He spends a lot of his spare time sailing competitively.  Can your family introduce Leonardo to some of New Zealand’s amazing beaches? Leonardo is keen to experience the Kiwi culture and discover the differences between New Zealand and Brazil.

Michael, USA, 16 years old, Semester

Michael is an animal loving person, and loves spending time with his dog, horse riding or interacting with any other animals that are around.  He enjoys being out in nature, hiking, camping or rock climbing, Michael has a close relationship with his family and has just started spending time with his mum listening to audio books.  Michael’s other passion is LARP (live acting role playing) where he likes to make props and costumes.

Oceane, France, 16 years old, Year


Oceane enjoys going to school to learn new things and is a class representative.  Outside of school, she keeps herself busy by reading and taking part in sport. She enjoys running and skiing with her father and goes bike riding with her mum.  Oceane also takes singing lessons once a week. She also enjoys walking her dogs and likes to cook and listen to music.

Trinity, USA, 16 years old, Year

Trinity’s biggest hobby is dancing.  She has been involved in different aspects of dance since she was 5 years old, from cheerleading to drill team and now does Colorguard.  She also likes reading and writing. Trinity is a mature student who has a very close relationship with her mum and they enjoy spending time together going to the movies or playing card games.  Trinity’s mum lived in New Zealand for 6 years and now Trinity is keen to see why her mum loved it here so much.
